Biography:

Professor Chantal Wionet is a professor and Ph.D. supervisor at Université d’Avignon des Pays de Vaucluse. She previously served as the Head of the Department of Modern Literature at the same university. She has also been a member of the selection committees for academic positions at renowned French universities, including Paris-Sorbonne University, Université de Provence, Aix-Marseille University, Université Grenoble Alpes, and Université de Lille III. In addition, she has frequently chaired committees for the French national high school examination (baccalauréat) in language subjects. In recent years, Professor Wionet’s primary research interests include French linguistics, the history of the French language, discourse analysis, and the history of language ideologies. She has made significant contributions to the fields of French stylistics, grammar, lexicology, and lexicography.


Abstract:

Annie Ernaux, a French writer, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2022, and her works are now recognized globally. She excels at drawing inspiration from her personal experiences, exploring the roots and expression of both individual and collective memory. Her life and writing are inseparable. This lecture will delve into the boundaries and dimensions of Ernaux’s literary creation by examining the texts of her autobiographical novels. It will also explore the influence of her works on contemporary French literature, along with the author’s reflections on her writing style and approach to text creation.
