The 2024 International Forum on Higher Education was held in Beijing on October 12th and 13th, co-hosted by the Chinese Association of Higher Education (CAHE) and Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). Wu Yan, deputy Minister of Education and member of the CPC Leading Group of the Ministry of Education of China, and Zhang Jun, vice President of CAHE, Secretary of the CPC BIT Office and member of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Prof. Shahbaz Khan, Director and Representative to UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, delivered an online speech. President Yang Zongkai was invited to attend the forum and deliver a keynote presentation.
With a title of ‘Implementing Strategic Actions for Education Digitalization to Support High-Quality Industrial Development’, Yang analyzed new challenges and objectives facing and made an introduction to China’s education digitalization in speech. He introduced China's initiatives in educational digitalization and, referencing the benchmark construction at Wuhan University of Technology (WUT), outlined the university's efforts to leverage educational digitalization for high-quality development. This includes innovations in academic education, character development, school administration, and general operations. He emphasized WUT’s commitment to conducting scientific research and fostering innovation aligned with green and sustainable development principles, noting the significant achievements realized thus far. President Yang Zongkai proposed initiatives to strengthen integration between industry and education and the convergence of science and education, while promoting AI-driven educational advancements and exploring the concept of “Metaversity”.
The International Forum on Higher Education is a prominent annual event organized by CAHE, now in its 23rd edition, with the theme of ‘Technological Innovation and Sustainable Development’, announcing ‘Beijing Initiative for Talent Development and Technological Innovation’. The Forum has attracted nearly 500 attendees from over 50 countries and regions.
Relevant directors of Office of the CPC WUT Committee and Adminitration, along with teacher and student representatives from the School of Law, Humanities and Sociology of WUT, attended the Forum.
