Recently, the 2025 International Conference on Structural Resilience and Sustainability was held at the Junshan Campus of Wuhan University of Technology (WUT). Co-hosted by WUT, the National Key Laboratory of Bridge Engineering Safety and Resilience, Wuhan University, and China First Highway Xiamen Engineering Co., Ltd., the conference brought together over 150 experts, scholars, industry leaders, and practitioners from around the world. Attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on core topics such as “disaster resilience” and “sustainable design” in structural engineering, collectively exploring the future of structural resilience and sustainable development.
At the opening ceremony, Zhu Xiaohan, Member of the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) Working Committee, Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee, and Secretary of the Junshan New City Party Working Committee, delivered a speech on behalf of the local government and introduced the development of the district. Zhang Di, Vice President of WUT, delivered a welcome address and presented an overview of WUT’s progress in transportation engineering. Hu Zhijian, the Conference Chair, offered details about the event’s preparation and future plans.
The conference featured 11 keynote speeches by renowned experts, including Professor Jiann-Wen Woody Ju from the University of California, Los Angeles, a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts; Professor Zhou Yingxin, a fellow of the Academy of Engineering, Singapore; Professor Wang Jingquan, Vice President of Jiangsu University; Professor Lizhi Sun, University of California, Irvine; Professor Zhen Leng, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Parallel sessions were organized around four themes: roads, bridges, structures, and tunnels. Scholars exchanged ideas about cutting-edge research on topics such as lifecycle safety and resilience of structures, structural responses under extreme loads, intelligent inspection technologies, durability assessment, and sustainable technologies. By establishing platforms for interdisciplinary collaboration among industry, science and technology, and education, the conference aims to advance infrastructure resilience against disasters and adaptability to extreme environments.
