On April 12, Mai Liqiang, Vice President of WUT, met with Academician Luo Xianjun, a globally renowned materials scientist and Executive Dean of the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).
Vice President Mai Liqiang extended a warm welcome to Academician Luo and provided a brief introduction to the WUT. He noted that A*STAR was a globally recognized institution for scientific innovation and expressed WUT’s willingness to establish collaborative partnerships with the agency. He expressed anticipation for deepening cooperation with ASTAR, the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC), and other institutions in areas such as scientific research and joint talent cultivation. Vice President Mai also expressed his sincere appreciation for the thoughtful arrangements made by Academician Luo for President Yang Zongkai’s forthcoming visit to Singapore.
Academician Luo expressed his gratitude for the WUT’s kind invitation and warm reception. He commended the university’s solid foundation and notable academic achievements in the field of materials science. He expressed his hope for more in-depth cooperation between the two sides in talent development, faculty and student exchange, and integration of industry, academia, and research. He further proposed exploring diversified collaborative models, such as establishing joint laboratories, to promote the coordinated development of Sino-Singapore high-level research institutions.
During the appointment ceremony, Vice President Mai presented Academician Luo with a letter of appointment as Visiting Professor of WUT.
Luo Xianjun also toured the exhibition hall of the Fiber Optic Sensing Technology Research Center, the State Key Laboratory of Silicate Materials for Architectures, and other facilities. Additionally, he delivered a specialized academic lecture for faculty and students with whom he had in-depth discussions on the latest research developments and cutting-edge advancements.
